Charlie’s Handcrafted Burger — You Have to Try This!

Hidden among the tiny streets of barangay Kapitolyo lies Charlie’s Grind and Grill. The place was packed and had people lining up and waiting for tables because the place was so small.

This may just be the tastiest burger I’ve had for a really long time (coming from a resto!). The patty almost tastes bacon-y. The burger is thick but ultra soft and juicy, it reminds me of a sloppy joe. Even without the sauce, the taste of the patty screams in your mouth. The bun is moist and soft and has that gourmet look with the black sesame seeds on top.

As you eat thru the burger you taste the dill pickles and cheese and the onions, they provide a nice crunch to an almost pillowy sandwich. This is definitely burger heaven. I see everyone beside me eating so quickly, I guess they know that this burger won’t be good when it’s cold. It’s so juicy and flavorful, you start wondering if they actually brined the patty or got an extra fat cow for the meat. The burger patty is almost too soft. It’s really messy to eat but I assure you the slop on my chin was well worth it.

The nuclear wings lived up to it’s name considering it was dotted with chili pepper seeds on the sauce. It was crisp and saucy at the same time. The sauce on the chicken was hot, slightly smokey, slightly sour and very buttery. The dipping sauce was creamy with globs of blue cheese, it was creamy and complemented the veggie sticks and chicken perfectly. Don’t let this one stay too long on the plate or you’ll lose the crispness.

Hi Giannina πŸ™‚ Thanks for your reply on my last comment re: Ninang Pilar’s taco/baking days πŸ™‚ Anyhow, I used to frequent Charlie’s and can I just say their black angus & cheesesteak are the shiznit! Kapitolyo houses another great foodie discovery, Cafe Juanita. They have a new 2nd branch in Forbeswood in the fort but the one in Kapitolyo’s still got the authentic charm. Looking forward to visiting Buenisimo or Cafe Ysabel real soon πŸ™‚

  2. Oh wow! I will surely go to Cafe Juanita soon. Thanks for the tip! Finally someone is actually commenting on my blog…hahaha I didn’t think people read my entries. :p
    Thanks for the feedback!

    hi giannina

Charlies Grill burgers are awesome! The burger wars have started. However there are 4 new players in the City .Good Burger Johnny Rockets,Crave Burgers & Goodfellas Steaks & Burgers. Of the four I would say Goodfellas is the number contender of Charlies.Super yummy ” Authentic American Charbroiled Burger”. Its near Tomas Morato in Kamuning.

  4. @Jon: Thanks for the info! Oh dear I wasn’t too happy about Johnny Rockets..I don’t want to write about it here since I didn’t find my experience noteworthy. I love Good Burgers, since it has that chicken twist. I haven’t tried Goodfellas, but I will soon! My cousins just live around the corner! Thanks for the info! πŸ™‚
The burger wars have definitely started…and to think, a couple of years back, Brother’s Burger was THE burger place and can only be found in Ortigas. πŸ™‚

I agree with everyone that Charlie’s burgers are the cats pajamas, but I’m quite disturbed about the amount of oil they pour into those babies, as well as their cheesesteak!

What’s your take on this, chef? Does the taste justify the “artery-clogging” factor of the dish, specifically if the dish is as common as a burger

  6. @Gourmandoise I’m a big fan of fat! What would life be like without butter, olive oil, foie gras and good old pork back fat. πŸ™‚

  7. i so wanna try it, i heard it’s really yummy πŸ˜›

    i hope they’ll have a Makati branch.
